You read that headline right: 3 out of 3 of KSUA’s 2014 Viticulture or Enology graduates have landed jobs in the industry – since graduation in May.
- One graduate manages a vineyard at an Ohio wine education center.
- One graduate works in the fermentation department for a large Ohio winery business.
- One graduate works in the fermentation department for an Ohio DIY wine business.
I don’t do humble brags here, people. This is a big deal, and I could not be more proud of our students’ successes, and I want you to know about it.
I know, I know; we aren’t churning out hundreds and hundreds of graduates…not right now, anyway, but not many programs can claim 100% success rate of grads getting jobs in their fields of interest. Our students work hard in class and during their practical experiences with growers and winemakers, and their efforts certainly can pay off.
Some have suggested that there are not nearly enough jobs to support a Viticulture and Enology Program in Ohio, and I think this success rate shows that the market can certainly bear (and definitely desires) educated viticulture and enology employees. We aim to provide that education and those knowledgeable employees.
We here at KSUA work hard to ensure our students gain not only theoretical viticulture and enology knowledge, but also networking and job-hunting skills to enable them to be successful in landing the jobs they want. The class of 2014 has done an outstanding job taking advantages of all that our program has offered – well done!
Developing and maintaining relationships within the industry are critical to our student success rate, and I thank each and every vineyard and winery business who supports our program by mentoring our students and providing practical knowledge and guidance for success.
We felt that this was something worth bragging about.
